Pet ID Tag for 3D Printing: Free Online Address Tag Generator

A lost pet without an ID tag on its collar almost always means lost time at the worst possible moment — whoever finds it has no idea who to call, and either keeps the animal at home indefinitely or hands it to a shelter, from which the way back to the owner is much longer and far from guaranteed. A store-bought engraved tag solves this, but costs money and a shipping wait for two lines of text you could print at home in half an hour.

I built a free generator — the pet address tag — that assembles a 3D tag model right in your browser from a name and phone number and hands you a print-ready STL or 3MF. No CAD, no sign-up, no limit on how many models you make — print a spare right away, or a different tag for every pet in the house.

What you can customize

  • Name and phone number — two lines of raised text; leave the phone blank for a name-only tag.
  • Font — several typefaces to choose from; the letters are true vector outlines, not a pixelated raster, so the digits stay crisp even at small sizes.
  • Shape — rounded rectangle or circle, purely a matter of taste.
  • Ring hole — above, left, or right of the text, with adjustable diameter and edge margin, sized to your specific collar ring.
  • Base thickness and relief height — tuned by default for durability on a tag that'll spend months swinging on a collar, but you can bump them up for a large dog.

The tag's overall size is calculated automatically from the text you enter, the letter height, and the surrounding margin — no need to manually pick dimensions that happen to fit the text.

Why raised text instead of engraving or a sticker

Laser engraving is the same raised/recessed idea, but needs a separate machine. A sticker or marker wears off from constant contact with fur, water, and claws within a few weeks. Raised letters pressed directly into the tag's body physically can't rub off or peel — they're as much a part of the plastic as the tag itself, unfazed by rain or a bath.

For contrast and readability at a distance, it's convenient to print the tag in two colors — swap filament exactly at the height where the base transitions into the relief (that height is shown in the stats on the "Download" step), and the text comes out one color while the background is another, with no painting and no AMS/MMU needed.

Which filament to use

The tag lives outdoors almost permanently, so water and UV resistance matter more than looks. PETG is the standard choice — it shrugs off moisture and barely degrades under UV, unlike PLA, which turns brittle in the sun within a few months and can shatter on impact with concrete or asphalt. If the tag will rub a lot against a carabiner or buckle, it's worth looking at nylon or filled PETG — both hold up noticeably better against abrasion than plain PLA.

How to get the file

  1. Open the tag generator — it works instantly, no install needed.
  2. Enter the name and phone number, pick a font and letter height.
  3. Choose the shape, a preview color, and set up the collar ring hole.
  4. Download the STL or 3MF.
  5. Print in PETG, 0.16–0.2 mm layers, no supports needed — thread the collar ring on only after printing, since the hole is left empty exactly for that.

The model is already correctly oriented for printing — no extra slicer setup needed beyond picking a material and profile.
