Types of Photopolymer Resin: Standard, Tough, Flexible, Castable — Which to Pick
The word "resin" in photopolymer printing covers several materials with very different composition and price — which type you pick affects not just the finished part's properties, but how much a single print actually costs.

Price differences
Standard resin is usually the most affordable and the right baseline for costing bulk miniature prints. Tough, castable, and dental resins cost noticeably more because of special additives and — for dental — certification, not just a more complex manufacturing process.
Picking the right one for the job
- Printing miniatures and display models for sale — standard gives the best detail for the least money.
- Need a part that takes a load or a snap-fit — go with tough/ABS-like; regular standard resin will crack during assembly.
- Casting jewelry — castable only, its formula is specifically tuned to burn out clean with no residue in the mold.
- Dental work or anything that touches the body — certified dental/bio resin only; standard resin doesn't qualify, by regulation, not just by properties.
How it affects cost
Different resin types aren't interchangeable in price "by eye": castable and dental resins cost 2-3x standard, and if you cost them as if they were regular resin, the order ends up underpriced. Using the price of whatever standard resin is on hand as the benchmark for every photopolymer order. If a shop also works with tough or castable resin, its cost can run 2-3x higher — and that difference belongs in the price of the specific order, not averaged across the whole shelf.
