Bambu Lab PETG Matte: The New Matte PETG — Settings, Price, and Where a Workshop Needs It

On September 28, 2026, Bambu Lab announced PETG Matte, a matte PETG that "prints like PLA, lasts like PETG." The manufacturer calls it "the all-rounder of our PETG lineup": a soft, low-gloss surface that hides layer lines, with the toughness PETG is known for. Here is what it means for a workshop that prints to order.
What's new
- Matte surface. The low gloss hides layer lines, so parts look more premium without post-processing.
- Closer to PLA in use. A reworked formula reduces the stringing, blobs, and clogs typical of traditional PETG.
- Supports peel off by hand. Even on steep overhangs and deep holes, same-material supports come away by hand and leave a clean surface.
- Better moisture resistance. According to Bambu Lab, a spool straight off the shelf prints as it should, but after extended exposure above 72 hours at 50% humidity it still needs drying.
- UL GREENGUARD 2904 certification for low emissions when printing indoors.

Print settings
Bambu Lab advises drying the filament before printing if it has been exposed to humidity above 50% for more than 72 hours. According to an independent review on filamentcheatsheet.com, recommended settings are a 230–260 °C nozzle, a 65–75 °C bed, and speeds under 250 mm/s; check the exact values in the Bambu Studio profile and the TDS on the product page. The profile is read from the RFID tag in the AMS.
Two practical caveats from Bambu Lab:
- PETG Matte adheres strongly to PEI plates: let the plate cool fully before removing the print, or you risk damaging both the plate and the bottom of the part.
- It is not a support material for PLA: the special formula is great for same-material supports, but for multi-material supports the manufacturer recommends PETG Basic.
The filament is not food-grade, so don't use prints for food storage or contact.
Where a workshop needs it
Bambu Lab's own application examples: load-bearing hooks and speaker shelves, soap dishes and bathroom organizers, and planters on a sunny balcony. For orders, that means:
- Decor and gifts where the customer wants a matte, non-glossy look but also needs the moisture and wear resistance PLA doesn't provide.
- Functional parts in damp or outdoor settings.
- Parts with tricky supports where a clean surface after removal matters.
Against PLA Matte the choice is simple: PLA Matte for static parts and the easiest printing, PETG Matte when the part must withstand moisture and load. We found no manufacturer comparison with PETG HF, so we don't make one here; for a general overview of materials, see our guide PLA, PETG, ABS, and ASA: choosing the right filament for orders.
How to build it into your price
Material cost is the grams of the part plus supports, cleanup, and failures. At $13.99 per kg, one gram costs about $0.014. An 85 g part would use roughly $1.19 of filament, before failures, supports, and any volume discounts you get. In the calculator you enter the spool price and the weight in grams, and it adds printer depreciation, electricity, and labor. The spool calculator and electricity cost calculator are free utilities from the tools section that help with leftover filament and energy cost.

FAQ
Is PETG Matte the same as PETG Basic? No. It is a separate material with a matte surface and a reworked formula; for supports under PLA the manufacturer still recommends PETG Basic.
Does it need drying? Yes, if the filament has sat above 50% humidity for more than 72 hours.
How many colors? Eight. The store page may show "16 colors": these are the same colors in two formats (refill and with spool).
Does it work with the AMS? Yes, Bambu Lab lists compatibility with all AMS units.
