How does the illusion work?

For every position the tool takes two letters: the letter of the first word is extruded front to back, the letter of the second word side to side. Their common part looks like the first letter from the front and like the second from the right. The blocks are staggered diagonally by the letter width, so they never hide each other from either side.

Why do the words need the same length?

Each block is a pair of letters. If the second word is one letter short, there's nothing to intersect with and the letter of the first word simply vanishes. That's why the generator asks you to even out the words: add a letter, drop one, or put spaces in the same positions in both words.

Question 3

Where should I look from to read the words?

The first word reads straight from the front, the second straight from the right, roughly at letter level. The Front and Right buttons under the preview show both views. On a shelf, turn the sculpture corner-first toward the viewer: as you walk past, one word turns into the other.

Do I need supports?

Usually not: the blocks stand on the base and the walls follow the letter outlines. Overhangs only appear under horizontal strokes (the top of T, the bars of F) and are usually short. If your printer struggles with overhangs longer than 5 mm, enable tree supports.

Which layer height and orientation should I use?

Print base down, exactly as downloaded. A 0.12–0.16 mm layer gives clean rounded letters at 20–30 mm height; for letters 40 mm and up, 0.2 mm is enough.

Which font works best?

Accepted Answer

Bold and simple: Impact or Arial. Thick strokes make thick, sturdy intersection pillars and a crisper silhouette. Serif fonts (Georgia, Times New Roman) work too, but the serifs come out thin.

Question 7

Why did the dots on Ä or the accent on É disappear?

Accepted Answer

Dots and accents aren't attached to the letter, so in the intersection they would float in the air — a piece like that can't be printed. The generator removes them and tells you which letters were affected. In Verdana and Georgia the tail of Q is a separate stroke too — pick Impact or Arial for Q.

Can I print it in two colors?

Yes. The “3MF · 2 colors” button exports a Bambu Studio / OrcaSlicer project: the base on filament 1, the letters on filament 2. Without an AMS, print the regular file and add a filament change at the top of the base — the height is shown under the button.

Question 9

Is the model one solid piece? Will my slicer complain?

Accepted Answer

It's one solid: the base and the letters form a single closed (watertight) body with no holes or self-intersections, so there's nothing to repair before slicing.

How do I change the base size?

Accepted Answer

On the “Shape” step choose the base thickness (thin, thick or custom, 1.2–15 mm), the margin around the letters separately left-right and front-back (1–30 mm) and the corner radius. The base is always at least 1 mm wider than the letters on every side. Size, weight and the bed check update instantly.

Can I print without a base?

Yes: choose “No base” and every letter pair stands on the bed as a separate piece. The generator works out the centre of mass and the contact patch of each pair and warns if a pair (most often with V, J or Q — pointed or round bottom) may tip over. For reliability it's better to keep a base or enable a brim in the slicer.
