PP-GF is plain PP reinforced with glass fiber: it raises stiffness and reduces deformation in a way similar to PP-CF, but glass fiber is cheaper than carbon fiber and doesn't give the part that "technical" matte look with visible black fibers. PP-GF is a bit heavier and slightly less stiff than the carbon-fiber version, but stays noticeably lighter than most other reinforced plastics thanks to PP's low base density.

When to use it

  • Rigid lightweight parts with chemical-resistance requirements, but without needing carbon fiber's maximum stiffness.
  • Functional parts in contact with acids, alkalis, or household chemicals.
  • Replacing PP-CF in budget-constrained projects where the fiber's visual look isn't essential.

When to pick something else

  • You need maximum stiffness per unit mass — PP-CF gives a stronger reinforcing effect thanks to carbon fiber.
  • No hardened nozzle available and abrasive wear is unacceptable — use plain PP without filler.
  • You need a smoother, less rough surface — consider plain PP or PETG.

Pros and cons

Pros: higher stiffness and dimensional stability relative to base PP, cheaper than PP-CF, retains polypropylene's chemical resistance and lightness.

Cons: requires a hardened nozzle due to glass fiber abrasiveness, PP's characteristic finicky bed adhesion, a rough matte surface, slightly heavier than PP-CF at the same volume.

How it affects your print cost

As with PP-CF, glass fiber is abrasive and quickly wears down brass nozzles — budget the switch to a hardened one as equipment depreciation. The filament itself usually costs less than PP-CF, making it the more economical choice for parts that need high stiffness without justifying the extra cost of carbon-fiber reinforcement.
