Water-Washable Resin solves resin printing's biggest household headache — it eliminates isopropyl alcohol. Its chemical formulation lets you rinse off uncured residue with plain water instead of IPA, simplifying the setup of a workspace at home or in a small shop without a fume hood or flammable-liquid storage.

When to use it

When to pick something else

  • You need maximum mechanical strength or detail — most Water-Washable formulations trail the best Standard Resin and Tough Resin on final properties.
  • Printing in high humidity — water-washable resins are more sensitive to ambient moisture during printing than IPA resins, and accuracy can suffer in a damp room.
  • A functional part under load — consider Tough Resin or ABS-like Resin, where mechanics matter more than wash convenience.

Pros and cons

Pros: post-processing with plain water — no buying, storing, or disposing of IPA, lower fire risk and less sharp smell in the room, simplifies setting up printing without exhaust ventilation.

Cons: mechanical properties usually trail premium IPA resins of the same class slightly, sensitivity to air humidity during printing itself, wash wastewater still contains uncured resin particles and shouldn't go down the drain without settling and post-exposure.

How it affects your print cost

Water-Washable Resin's main saving isn't in the resin's own price (it's comparable to Standard Resin), but in eliminating IPA costs: no need to buy, store, and periodically replace or dispose of alcohol, which adds up especially with frequent printing. You also save time on workspace setup — no airtight container or fume hood required, both mandatory when working with a flammable solvent. The one hidden cost is proper disposal of wash water containing resin particles — it can't just go down the drain, and that should be factored into post-processing expenses.
